The "PERFECT" 1989 Porsche Carrera
$22,000 firm (Kelly Blue Book Retail: $24,510 VIEW REPORT)
If you are looking for the perfect classic Porsche, this is the one! I've owned this car for some 3+ years and it has served me faithfully without mechanical malfunction during that time. In 3 years, other than basic oil and transaxle lubricant changes, the only maintenance expense I have had has been replacement of engine compartment fuel lines, to insure integrity of the rubber hoses.
This car is ALL-original. Original paint, no evidence anywhere of even the most minor collision damage or repair. There is NO rust ANYWHERE on this car. This includes underneath, where the car looks almost as if it had just rolled off the assembly line. The muffler and exhaust pipes are like new, the clutch is strong and smooth, the transmission shifts smoothly and precisely.
Many Porsche-philes will tell you that the '89 Porsche Carrera (964) was the best, most reliable Porsche ever made... before or since. It comes with the famously reliable G50 5-speed transmission; virtually bullet proof by anyone's estimation. This was the last year of the reliable air-cooled engine, meaning no radiator, as well as standard non-power steering for the ultimate feel of the road. This car is not burdened with the troublesome digital dash board of the later cars. Just plain, simple, and reliable mechanical gauges and switches.
The condition of my car defies belief of its (low by Porsche standards) mileage (101,000). There is not a single scratch on the exterior, nor any parking lot door dings, thanks to years of "defensive" parking. The paint is all original, and just beautiful. It shines like new, thanks to garage-only parking. I don't drive it any where it will be sitting in the sun all day.
The convertible top and rear window are both in flawless condition, as it the rarely-used convertible boot cover. The black leather interior is buttery soft as from the factory, with not a single rip, tear, or wear mark. The dash is perfect... no cracks.
The carpeting is without blemish, thanks in part to use of secondary lay-in carpets (also in near perfect condition). Likewise, the carpeting in the front trunk area is as new in every respect.
This car has been treated to a number of tasteful enhancements, including Turbo style cast wheels, leather-wrapped sport steering wheel (complete with working horn button and Porsche logo). A brushed aluminum interior appearance package has been added: gauge surrounds, door handles and locks, gear shift knob, and door threshold plates, all of which add a subtle "bespoke" look without being garish.
Likewise, the original radio has been replaced with a modern unit with integral CD player which offers line-level outputs for a separate amplifier if the new owner desired.
Included with the car are the original tool kit, the never-used mini-spare tire with cigarette-lighter-powered air pump. Additionally, a "battery tender" and battery cut-off switch are installed for those long winters in the garage. Of course the obligatory after-market jack pad is included for ease of maintenance with a standard floor jack. Also installed is a heavy-duty trunk/boot stiffener bar. Additionally, there is a wired-into-the-ignition-system radar detector which I will leave with the car.
To meet the demands of Texas summers, within the past 2 years I've upgraded the stock evaporator unit with a special high-efficiency unit from Renn-Aire, the Porsche air conditioner specialists. This included all new barrier A/C hoses from front to rear, and the RennAire "Procooler" receiver/drier, and an upgraded Sanden compressor. This has resulted in significantly lower temperatures in the cabin, as well as increased air flow through the system. I installed this system myself, so it shows the care of a personal owner, rather than some garage goomba! I have carefully retained all the installation documents for future reference, which will go with the car.
Recent activity for the car includes new Sumitomo tires all around (less than 500 miles), and a recent oil and filter change (synthetic oil of course) accompanied by a full valve clearance adjustment, while replacing valve cover gaskets with re-usable silicones, and all new cover nuts and crush washers (less than 100 miles ago). For Texas buyers, the car comes with brand new (September) annual inspection sticker.
I have recently detected a slight wavering on the brake pedal, indicating a warped brake rotor. I have new OEM rotors, and will replace these, as well perform a complete brake fluid flush, prior to turning over to the new owner.
This car absolutely NEVER drips a single drop of oil (see pictures of the undercarriage), and oil consumption is insignificant (I've never added more than a single quart between 5,000 mile oil changes). Oil pressures are on the upper end of the scale, and temperatures never get anywhere much above mid-gauge, even in Texas 105 degree summer weather.
EVERYTHING on this car functions as original: power windows, seats. all gauges, cruise control, lights, turn signals, wipers, etc. There is absolutely nothing this car needs to be enjoyed for another 100,000 miles!
I am a very particular classic car collector. I want all my vehicles to be near-perfect, and strive to achieve this. This beautiful car has been no exception, as I have spared no expense to keep it looking and running as close to new as possible.
Unfortunately for me, I'm a short-attention-span kind of guy, and it's time to reluctantly let go of this beautiful Porsche example to make room for the next car on my bucket list. I can honestly say that this car needs absolutely nothing!
This is the 7th Porsche I've owned (well, okay, that includes a Cayenne), and is without a doubt the most perfect and pleasurable example I've owned. With 10 cars in my current fleet, it is time to relinquish this prize example for another fantasy, and therefore some lucky new owner gets to enjoy this Ultimate Porsche!
Private inspection and drive are welcome. I have clear title to this car, so it is ready to be passed along to the next owner without any hassle. I have provided a CARFAX REPORT which shows a history of no damage nor serious issues.
